Piloting Smart Buoys on River Neva


One pilot within the INFUTURE project - Future Potential for Inland Waterways is about testing smart buoys, AtoNs by Meritaito (SeaHow) on river Neva through winter time.


Smooth inland navigation using advanced fairway technology is to secure safe navigation in challenging places. Within INFUTURE project we have conducted a study on possibilities to use smart buoys on selected areas along the fairway from Saimaa to river Neva.


This subject was discussed at the Round Tables in Finland and in Russia last week.


Yesterday, November 10th, Vladimir Karetnikov and Anatoly Burkov from the Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping, Sergey Rydyih from the Volgo-Balt Administration and Jevgeny Nabatov from Meritaito, SeaHow participated the project part when the first of two AtoNs was deployed on river Neva, area of Koshkinsky fairway.


Operation passed very well. Deploying procedure and anchor and chain was follow instruction passed by SeaHow.


The second AtoN will be deployed next week on lake area, Ladojskoe lake, Sukho shallow.


INFUTURE - Future Potential for Inland Waterways is one of the projects included in the South-East Finland - Russia CBC Programme 2014-2020. The budget 1,2 MEUR. Funded by the European Union, the Russian Federation and the Republic of Finland. Implementation time 1 November 2018 - 31 October 2021.
